BSES
Overview
BSES is a joint venture between the Government of Delhi and Reliance Infrastructure Limited. It is one of the largest electricity distribution group companies providing reliable and quality electric supply in Delhi. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and BSES Yamuna Power Limited are the divisions serving ~900 sq. km. area in Delhi with a customer density of ~5300 consumers / sq. km.
BSES was looking to provide training to their employees on a wide range of training topics. However, intranet was the only medium available to share the information and training content with employees of the organisation. This restricted the users learning only till the time they had access to the office system. Expecting employees to spend additional time in office for learning and development was a difficult task. Also, there were no means available for the L&D department to monitor the progress of the employees. This created a roadblock in the learning journey for the employees of the organisation.
Challenges
a.) Training content and material were shared with the employees over intranet. However, there were no centralized tracking facility available to verify if the training content was viewed / accessed by the users.
b.)Â Training content was accessible only on office systems, this significantly impacted the amount of time the employees could spend on learning. They had to stay back in office for viewing/accessing the training content. BSES was looking for a solution that would help users access the training content on the go.
c.) BSES was also looking for an online platform with ready training content and assessments to provide an interactive learning experience to all its employees.
COVID Pandemic intensified the need for a Learning Management System that would help employees access the training content while working from home.
Solutions
The Senior Management team approached Violet InfoSystems Private Limited (VIPL) to acquire a Learning Management System that would serve their requirements. Violet InfoSystems Private Limited planned to provide a web-based platform as well as a mobile application to meet the requirements of BSES. However, BSES had a special condition of not allowing access of internet on the office systems of the employees. VIPL had to take up this requirement as well. The Learning Management Solution (WeLearn LMS) a SaaS Learning Platform provided by VIPL included provision to access and track learning interventions (LI) including the online learning, training, assessments, and library.
WeLearn LMS furnished a list of reports that provided details regarding the number of Learning Interventions assigned to each user as well as the number of assignments that was completed / accessed successfully by them. This resolved the concern of tracking the training progress of the employees.
WeLearn LMS also provided a wide variety of ready training content (Interactive Learning - SCORM) with topics like Building Mindset, Communication Skills, Etiquette and Grooming, First Time Manager, Self-Improvement and many others. 80 Courses were delivered via the LMS which provided an extensive learning experience to the users. Assessments were also provided with every course which further assisted learning among users and gave them an opportunity to gauge their understanding of the topic. This addressed the BSES requirement for a platform that consisted of ready training content that the users could access.
WeLearn LMS was made available as a mobile application in App Store (iOS) as well as in Play Store (Android) enabling the users to access the training content on the fly. This helped the users in accessing the training content 24x7 over the internet.
Results
The WeLearn LMS (Web and Mobile Application) was launched successfully in the month of August 2021. Teasers and Launch Mailers were shared with the employees in order to notify them about the upcoming launch of the Learning Management System.
The LMS provided a way for the L&D team to assign targeted learning interventions to each users based on the department they belonged to. They were also able to view and monitor the progress of the users. The LMS also aided in keeping a track of all the offline/virtual trainings conducted in the organisation. It notified the users regarding the planned or ad-hoc trainings that were scheduled in the organisation.
Users were provided with a training video when they logged into the LMS. This training video proved to be a guide helping users understand the features and functions of the LMS. Implementation of the WeLearn LMS gave a tremendous boost to employees’ learning experience. Gamification in the LMS motivated employees to access and complete the learning content and assessments assigned to them.
